As I was growing up, Rome had a lasting appeal, because it was the one place in the world where my parents and I were all relaxed and happy together. We left refreshed by the surroundings.
Rome is known as The Eternal City because of its popularization in Hall Caine’s 1901 novel of the same name. It is a city that continues to hold special memories for me.
My most vivid memory comes from our first family visit to Rome in the early sixties. We stood on the curb in front of the Colosseum.
