Chapter 14

Showing Up (Jackson)

In the previous chapter, the Dominican girl’s spirit was raised by a tangible gift. I was told that the spirits of the cross country runners shown above are further raised by the messages I have shared during the awards ceremonies at the NCAA Cross Country Championships. Although showing up wasn’t always easy, Woody Allen has said, showing up is 80 percent of life (Allen).

Since 2011, my wife and I have been invited to Beaumont Plateau, where we have been afforded the honor to present Cross Country Championship team sportsmanship awards.

Considering our lack of sports acumen and prowess, this assignment seems astonishing.
